By far, my favorite part of what I do is the people, and one of the people that I always look forward to working with is artist Mark Baugh-Sasaki. He’s one of the kindest, most generous humans out there and I think his art is super rad. We met several years ago through a mutual friend and I’ve been lucky enough to photograph him several times for various publications since. A few weeks ago, Mark asked me to come by his studio to grab a few quick portraits for his bio page and I was happy to oblige. His studio, tucked away on a dead end street in the Mission/Design district of San Francisco is so cool and I never pass up a chance to check it out. There’s always some ambitious new piece in the works and he’s always customized a new part of the workshop in some insanely inventive way. This time was no exception. We grabbed a few shots of him working on a great new piece and shot a few more environmental portraits. Here are a few of my favorites:

Beretta has been one of my favorite restaurants since the day it opened. It’s been a go-to birthday dinner spot in my inner circle for years and I have spent countless Sunday brunches on the outside patio indulging in too many cocktails and eating shameless amount of pizza. It’s one of those restaurants (more…)

Last summer California Olive Ranch brought me on board to photograph some of their growers in California’s Central Valley. Maia Hirshbein from COR and I headed out from the Bay the night before the shoot and shacked up at a hotel in Glenn County. We woke early and were on the road before sunrise. In all, we shot five farms from Yolo to Tehama County. We met some truly fantastic people along the way and managed to avoid major sunburns, sort of.
// FREDA SALVADOR
Working with FREDA SALVADOR is always a dream. Those women are creative powerhouses and I feel lucky every time we shoot together. I love their product, I love their aesthetic, I love their team, I love the whole package. For Spring 2015 we shot at Left Space Studios with the ever stellar Shawn Burke on hair and makeup and Megan and Cristina, founders of FREDA, on styling. Alexis Hutt with Look was our model and she was phenomenal, like magical awesome so much fun. Count this one as one of my recent favorites.

Richie Nakano makes some damn good food. His stand at the San Francisco Ferry Building has been a staple for a few years now and I was so excited when I heard he was opening up a permanent base in the Mission. When they brought me on board, I was elated: Richie’s GORGEOUS food and Lauren Geremia‘s fantastic interiors are so dreamy to photograph – such great collaborators.
